So last weekend was a blast. We built our own Teardrop Camper Trailer in less than three weeks, launched it late at night to make sure it didn’t fall off the trailer or suddenly combust, and we towed it to Sydney at 5am the next day.
We had to be in Sydney for the Sail GP. It’s like motor racing for yachts. Australia was competing along with Japan, China, France, UK and America. Of course Australia won every race hands down. The only ones that got close were the Japanese and Chinese entrants. We spent a lovely few hours on the harbour meeting new people and seeing the sights. I had my 70-200mm F2.8 lens but no converter, yet still managed to get some great shots as they came close to where we were positioned on the spectator boat.
Before the racing, we explored the city and had coffee at the Lindt Cafe. Best coffee ever with chocolate on top. After the racing we had dinner on the Harbour – yummy steaks, and then headed back to the camping ground which was only 15 minutes from Sydney CBD. We walked 15 kms that day all around the city. It’s a great place with lots to see and experience.
The next day we headed up to Palm Beach where Home and Away TV show is filmed. I admit I’ve been a fan for many years (make that decades). We had been there only once before probably in 2006. This time we explored more and walked along the beach to get up to the lighthouse. It’s called Barrenjoey Lighthouse. It was a steep 800mm climb on a rocky path but totally worth it. The views were fantastic there over both sides of the beach looking back. I did a 360 deg photo through Facebook on my new phone while I was up there.
Later that day we explored both Manly Beach and Bondi Beach. We had Rainbow Trout, salad and chips on the beach at Bondi. That day we walked 12 kms.
The next morning after bacon and eggs we headed back to Brisbane. What a great weekend.
